Periovac Vaccine – Help protect your dog’s teeth A new vaccine called Periovac has been developed and released as an aid in preventing periodontal disease in dogs.
Periodontal disease is inflammation of the deep supporting structures of the teeth. It is a consequence of untreated plaque, tartar, and associated gingivitis. It leads to bad breath, pain, tooth loss, and difficulty eating. Periodontal disease has been shown to be a risk factor for the development of kidney, heart and liver disease. Dogs at increased risk of developing periodontal disease include small breeds, brachycephalic (flat faced) breeds such as bull dogs, pugs etc, elderly dogs, and dogs fed soft food only.The vaccine is not a cure-all for periodontal disease but may aid in preventing and reducing the severity of the disease especially in at-risk dogs. Other important steps to prevent periodontal disease include regular check ups by your vet, feeding a dry food designed to reduce plaque and tartar build up, teeth brushing, encouraging chewing with toys and chew bones, and professional dental treatments as required by your vet.Periovac is now available at Pets n Vets for your dog.
